Why we don’t use telesales scripts at VSL

IMG_5812Telemarketing is a very effective method of marketing your business. Due to its nature it works for pretty much any business model and has very high conversion rates because people can't simply ignore a phone call. Prospects will either say they're not interested or ask for more information and possibly lead to a sale.

At Virtual Sales Limited we've been making calls to prospects for over 9 years. We're very experienced at handling telemarketing campaigns and we know the best ways of making a campaign successful with high conversion rates. It's also the main reasons why we don't use telesales scripts. Our telemarketers are very experienced and a script can hinder the sales call.

Our clients know when someone is reading from a script and we feel it makes us look unprofessional and inexperienced. We're more than happy to strike up a conversation with somebody and we know the right questions to ask. We've been doing it for a long time and we know how to do it right.

Do you want your business to be professional?

If you're going to outsource your telemarketing campaign I'm sure you want your business to stay looking professional. There's nothing worse than calling someone up during the middle of their busy day and reading a book to them down the phone! It's irritating and it will always lead to a dead end.

A professional business will employ people that are confident and know how to start a conversation without a script. Let's be honest here, some telesales phone calls can be annoying, but they don't have to be. There are ways of staying polite, professional and always receiving good responses from prospects.

Natural conversation wins approval

If you call someone up and you're polite to them, you're sincere and you ask them some questions, they'll be polite back. Even when the prospect has no interest in what you're selling, it's surprising how many people will recommend people they know that might be interested. This wouldn't happen from a conversation that was started by a script.

Most people see it as rude and lacking social skills if you use a script to initiate a conversation. It's also seen as a very weak way of approaching someone; almost like you're expecting a rejection. An experienced telemarketer will come across as chatty and friendly. This usually wins the approval of most people.

Getting to know your prospects

Phoning up your prospects and striking up a natural conversation will always lead somewhere. Most people will start opening up on the phone once they trust you for being open and friendly. It's during this time that your prospects will let you know their situation.

You'll very quickly start to understand your prospects, what their needs are and what they're looking for. Once you start getting to know your prospects you can tailor your solutions to them. Some of your leads might not be ready to buy right now. But, if you stay in touch with them, they might come to you in the future.

At VSL, we'll talk to you, learn from you and ensure that we start your telemarketing campaign so well versed in your business, we won't need a script!

I totally agree with you on the scripts!
It just invites rejection!
knowing the product inside out is the key, with natural conversations to build trust and relationships and not coming across like some hollow sounding drone. I wasn’t so direct on my page though, as too many people believe in it (against common sense or reality of teh situation!). The compromise is that if you know the answers you need to establish for a strong lead / sale you can integrate them naturally in conversation, without a long and rigid script.
Here is my attempt on the argument:

Yes…that’s true. Going through only the scripts actually doesn’t work at all. I really agree with you. And thanks for the tips shown above…
